Jim Mooney narrowly wins rematch with Primary challenger

by carlislewillard

Islamorada Rep. Jim Mooney narrowly avoided losing his House District 120 seat Tuesday, when he secured just 43 more votes than his closest Republican Primary challenger.

Mooney edged out Key Largo businesswoman Rhonda Rebman Lopez by less than one percentage point. Far behind them both was Republican housepainter Robert Allen.

Mooney is now slated to face lawyer and LGBTQ community member Adam Gentle, who defeated former congressional Chief of Staff Dan Horton-Diaz with 55.7% of the vote in the Democratic Primary.

HD 120 is Florida’s southernmost House district, encompassing all of the Florida Keys and Miami-Dade County’s bottom tip, including Homestead.
