Broward County rolled out its Late Shift Connect that subsidizes late-shift workers using on-demand ride services to get them to work and home between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Starting last week, eligible users open an account, indicate which ride-share service they want to use and, when they take that ride, swipe their Late Shift Connect payment card to pay the fare.
The user pays the first $2 of the fare, but the program will pay the rest, up to $15. The $2 million-a-year program is funded through the one-penny sales tax approved in 2018.
