Florida Atlantic got its football season off to a roaring start, routing visiting Charlotte 43-13. The visitors struck first, but the Owls took over from there.
A 63-yard pick-six by defensive back Justin McKitten with 17 seconds left in the first half gave the Owls a 26-7 lead at the break. A 30-yard touchdown pass from N’Kosi Perry to Je’Quan Burton on the opening drive of the third quarter put the game away.
The win came on head coach Willie Taggart’s birthday. “That was the best birthday that I’ve had,” he said.
FAU is playing at Ohio University on Saturday.
