South Florida’s Winner and Loser of the Week

Winner: Lauren Book. Book emerged from the first-ever election challenge of her political career, securing 60% of the vote against former Broward County Commissioner Barbara Sharief. This race got ugly, and drew plenty of resources Book could have otherwise used to help her Democratic colleagues this cycle. But a win’s a win.

Loser: Rhonda Rebman Lopez. Lopez lost a close GOP Primary battle with Republican Jim Mooney for a second straight cycle. That’s bad enough, but now Lopez is dabbling with election conspiracy theories and weighing a lawsuit against an attack ad she labels as “slander.” Good luck with that.
