Winner: Parkland victims. The Eagles’ Haven Wellness Center, which provides support services for those impacted by the 2018 Stoneman Douglas Shooting in Parkland and Coral Springs, is getting $600,000 from the state to continue operations. Federal funding for the center expired, but the state is stepping in to aid victims as the shooter’s trial continues.
Loser: Joe Martinez. The Miami-Dade Commissioner is accused of accepting $15,000 in exchange for pushing a measure helping Jorge Negrin, owner of Extra Supermarket in West Miami-Dade. The charges, following a five-year investigation, could allow Gov. Ron DeSantis to suspend Martinez and choose a replacement.
