Tamarac Mayor challenger raises questions about presidential vote

by carlislewillard

Donald Trump is threatening to become a factor, even in a nonpartisan city election, as Tamarac City Commissioner Mike Gelin is raising questions about whether Mayor Michelle Gomez voted for Trump.

After the mayoral rivals debated at King’s Point community, Gelin Monday put out a release claiming debate victory and saying, “Gomez did not deny that she twice voted for Trump,” in answering a voter’s question. A Trump vote could be a turn-off for Broward’s Democratic voters.

Gomez, first elected in 2010, declines to taint local doings by taking a stand on national politics.

“The focus is local,” she said.
