As another dismal season nears its end, Sandy Alcantara continues to give Marlins fans something to cheer about. In an era where most clubs restrict their pitchers to a strict number of throws, Alcantara stands out as a throwback to a bygone era.
He made his case to win the National League Cy Young Award by throwing his fifth complete game of the season Sunday, a 3-1 win over Washington. That’s the most complete games in the major leagues since 2017.
Alcantara needed only 103 pitches to dispatch Washington for his 13th win.
He has a 2.37 ERA for the season.
