Located between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, Hugh Taylor Birch State Park could have easily become more concrete canyons of condos.
But the park’s namesake preserved it so future generations could enjoy this 180-acre oasis of palms, oaks and mangroves in perpetuity, just steps from Fort Lauderdale’s bustle. The park, 3109 E. Sunrise Blvd., offers a slice of coastal wilderness with five unique ecosystems from coral reefs and dunes to a hardwood hammock.
A live animal presentation is among the activities along with biking, paddling and rollerblading. A pedestrian tunnel under State Road A1A leads to the beach.
