Representing himself, Democratic Sen. Jason Pizzo of Miami has filed suit against Gov. Ron DeSantis’ controversial charter flights for migrants from the Texas border using state money.
The Legislature did authorize $12 million for moving unauthorized migrants from Florida to other locations, but Pizzo’s suit contends that DeSantis’ action in moving 50 Venezuelans to Martha’s Vineyard island Sept. 14 did not comply with the law. He wants to stop more flights.
The migrants were seeking asylum and thus, not unauthorized migrants, as the budget language required. Also it requires moving them from “this state” to another location, Pizzo’s 15-page complaint says.
