Broward County Transit (BCT) was recently awarded $7.8 million toward the purchase of 26 new electric transit buses by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), according to County Commissioner Lamar Fisher.
The award will add to BCT’s current fleet of reduced-emission buses. Out of its 413 vehicles, the county has 12 all-electric buses and 46 that run on gas and electric. BCT was the first transit agency in South Florida to make this move, Fisher said.
“I am happy to see BCT’s fleet is making this tremendous change that provides an effective way to reduce harmful emissions,” Fisher said.
