As the Marlins wrap up their 12th losing season in the last 13 years, the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson noted, “the future has never seemed more bleak.”
Miami will have a new manager next season as the Marlins move on from Don Mattingly. But after increasing payroll by about $50 million this season in an ill-advised bet to win now, any hope of a splash venture into free agency is likely non-existent.
And Jackson wrote, “Is there a single position player, beyond Jazz Chisholm, on the roster that can be projected as a 2023 starter on a playoff-caliber team?”
No.
