Winner: Janelle Perez. A first responders group endorsing a Democrat is big news in what’s expected to be a competitive race in Senate District 38. Perez earned the endorsement from the South Florida Council of Firefighters, as she battles for the seat against Republican Alexis Calatayud .
Loser: Parkland community. Not for anything they did, but for a life sentence for the Stoneman Douglas shooter which left many angry and confused. True, some were satisfied with the sentence, and there is a valid debate about the ethics of the death penalty. But if the law allows it, why not apply it here?
