Florida Atlantic fell to 2-2 in Conference USA after UTEP connected on a 27-yard field goal at the gun to beat the Owls 24-21.
After FAU tied the game in the fourth quarter, the Miners took over with 4:36 remaining and played keep-away from the Owls in driving for the winning points.
“The opportunity was there, and we didn’t capitalize on it,” Owls Coach Willie Taggart said.
“We have to look at what we’re doing and, most importantly, make sure we’re getting the ball in our playmakers’ hands. We have to be better overall.”
