Halloween is scaring up some serious spending

Kids, adults and pets are all planning some frightful fun, according to the National Retail Federation survey that shows the number of Halloween shoppers is increasing by 4 percentage points from the previous year.

Spending is expected to increase to $10.6 billion, an increase over last year’s $10.1 billion last year, the survey found.

For dressing up, Spider-Man rules in costumed popularity, survey says. Witches, ghosts, Batman, pumpkin, zombie, vampire, pirate and Superman rank after that famous arachnid.

When it comes to pets, Fluffy is most often costumed as a pumpkin, the survey found. Next comes four-legged hotdogs and bats.
