Former Democratic state Rep. Robert Asencio got some last-minute help toward his bid to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Carlos Giménez in Congressional District 28.
Connecticut-based PAC Democrats Serve announced a five-figure ad buy highlighting Asencio’s working class roots, military service and police work while bashing Giménez for accepting insurance industry money and voting against the Inflation Reduction Act.
Asencio has less funding, name recognition and trails 10% in polling that found more voters know of Giménez, but those who know both prefer Asencio.
“If Asencio has the resources to tell his story, he can quickly close the gap,” pollsters said.
