Two years after her controversial election victory, Republican Sen. Ileana Garcia is defending her Senate District 36 seat in Miami, Miami Beach, Coral Gable and Sweetwater.
Her Democratic opponent, Raquel Pacheco has less funding, weaker party support and past bankruptcies that could worry voters.
But while Garcia has proven an effective legislator and money-getter for her district, she’s also been a controversy machine, insisting being gay is not “permanent,” racism in America is over because Barack Obama served two full presidential terms and Florida’s 15-week abortion restriction is good for human trafficking victims.
If voters were offended, they’ll show it Nov. 8.
