A race between former Democratic Bay Harbor Islands Mayor Jordan Leonard and Republican former reality TV star Fabíen Basabre is headed to a recount.
With all ballots tallied Wednesday, Basabe had 50.2% of the 52,456 votes cast compared to 49.8% for Leonard.
The 236 votes separating them fell within the 0.5-percentage-point threshold required to trigger an automatic recount.
Leonard, considered by political oddsmakers to be favored in the race based on his advantages in funding, experience and the district’s historic leanings, said his camp “will be making sure that every vote gets counted and that the upcoming recount is fair.”
