Oakland Park plans to birth a new downtown via multi-use development

by carlislewillard

Oakland Park is beginning construction next week on its new City Hall – this time on the west side of Dixie Highway in truly ground-breaking fashion.

The new Oakland City Hall – slated to be contained inside the Sky Building – will be a part of a mixed-use development that combines residential, including affordable housing, retail and government functions.

The Sky Building will have 136 residential units and ground floor retail, in addition to where you’ll go to pay city utility bills. It’s seen an effort to kickstart Oakland Park’s downtown hub, according to city officials. It’s going to overlook Jaco Pastorius Park.
