Wild Florida beckons at Curry Hammock State Park

Mangrove swamps, rockland hammocks and seagrass beds – all essential to the Florida Keys’ ecosystem – beckon visitors to Curry Hammock State Park.

The 1,110-acre park spans across a few Middle Keys, from Mile Marker 56.2 on U.S. 1 – called Crawl Key – to Big Pine Key. A hiker along the park’s 1.1-mile nature trail can walk through an untouched hardwood hammock to an overlook of Florida Bay. Kayaking through the park’s water might mean encountering horseshoe crabs, starfish, jellyfish, dolphins and manatees.

With that nursery for a variety of sea life, numerous winged species also visit the park, particularly peregrine falcons.
