John Herbst, who was fired from his city auditor position earlier this year, took his seat as a newly elected Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner and quickly generated fireworks, the Sun Sentinel reported.
He now shares the dais with two who voted to fire him: Mayor Dean Trantalis and Commissioner Steve Glassman. Herbst started his term with talk of firing the city manager and attourney. His contention that ultimately failed to win support was that they failed to follow city charter requirements that Commissioners be seated the first Tuesday after election.
Two losing candidates challenged Herbst’s victory, delaying last week’s ceremony.
