Manatee app for boaters and observers aims to increase safety

by carlislewillard

Boaters are urged to use caution as cooler weather tends to draw manatees southward along the Florida peninsula. That’s prompted Broward County to activate its Manatee Conservation Program through March 31.

Broward County has a mobile application, “I Spy a Manatee” that maps out boating safety zones with speed limits and allows sightings to be reported to spread further awareness of manatee locations.

Warm-water areas manatees often congregate include Lauderdale Power Plant, off the South Fork New River, near the Port Everglades Power Plant,  Black Point Park & Marina near Biscayne National Park and the Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center.
