The Broward County legislative delegation is making plans to expand the definition of “hate crimes” according to a recent delegation meeting.
State Attorney Harold Pryor told the delegation that crimes motivated by a person’s gender or gender identitity are on the rise, but the law recognizes hate crimes as those motivated by the victim’s race, color, ancestry, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, homeless status or advanced age.
Sen. Rosalind Osgood said she’s going to be working with Pryor to work on a law that increases penalties for those are motivated by gender and gender identity.
