School Board member resigns from role at arts center in the wake of drag show controversy

Brenda Fam, a Broward County School Board member, has resigned her position on the board that runs the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in the wake of the state’s announcement it’s investigating the arts center’s Dec. 26 staging of a “A Drag Queen Christmas.”

The show’s four Florida stops ignited a social media firestorm. And Fam, who was the School Board’s alternate appointee to the authority that runs the center, decried the show. The Center’s Board is a quasi-governmental body that receives state funding.

“I want no part of sexualization of children,” Fam said, according to the Sun Sentinel.
