The battle on the turmoil-filled Broward County School Board is moving to the judicial arena.
Rod Velez was elected to fill a seat representing the southern swath of Broward County on the Board, but a 27-year-old felony conviction kept him from taking his seat immediately. While Velez was trying to clear up whether he was eligible to serve, Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a vacancy and appointed Daniel Foganholi.
Now Velez’s 66-page legal complaint contends DeSantis’ executive order is unlawful and Velez should be declared the rightful occupant of the seat.
The board is currently in its third iteration since November.
