Palm Beach County School District’s funding for scholarship voucher programs has increased 600%, counting before the pandemic started, Palm Beach County school officials told the legislative delegation.
At lawmakers’ annual pre-Session huddle with the School Board, Democratic Rep. Joe Casello said he’s pessimistic about the future of public education, given what he sees the Republican-dominated Legislature advancing.
Between 2019 and the current year, the amount that the school district shells out for scholarships that go to private and parochial schools has risen from $11.2 million to $76.1 million
“A scholarship voucher program – that’s where public education is going,” Casello said.
