Daily tours through Miami-Dade County’s oldest house that stands in its original location – since 1891 – await visitors to Barnacle Historic State Park.

Ralph Middleton Munroe, an area pioneer who was the first Commodore of the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club, built the home located at 3485 Main Highway in Coconut Grove. It’s now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The simple bungalow withstood the Great Miami Hurricane of 1926 with minimal damage and now stands as a reminder of the era before the railroad arrived and Miami became a city.

The home stands on a remanent tropical hardwood hammock.
