Former Rep. Michael Grieco, who dropped out from a Senate race last year, announced his bid to succeed Democrat Dan Gelber, a fellow Democrat, as Miami Beach Mayor.
The criminal defense lawyer’s bid makes the race to replace term-limited Gelber a three-way contest. He’ll be competing with Democratic Miami Beach Commissioner Michael Góngora, and Republican candidate David Hundley.
He entered politics in 2013, unseating an incumbent Miami Beach City Commissioner. In 2017, he ran to become Miami Beach Mayor, but he ditched the attempt after questionable campaign contributions were revealed. The issues linger.
Grieco was elected to the House in 2017.
