Democratic Rep. Marie Woodson’s legislation (HB 101) that would include federal agents in a homestead exemption for “first responders” is getting traction, unanimously passing in the House Ways and Means Committee.
The bill would correct an oversight that nearly meant survivors of two slain federal agents that were gunned down in 2021 serving a child pornography warrant did not receive the same benefit as local first responders killed in the line of duty.
“I thank my colleagues for their unanimous support,” Woodson said. “I also want to thank Broward County Property Appraiser Marty Kiar for working with me on this bill.”
