Miami Beach’s Bass Museum of Art is heralding a new era with new funding and the appointment of a new curator, James Voorheis, an art historian who had been running the Tony Smith Foundation in New York City, the Miami Herald reported.
The modern art museum is approaching its 60th anniversary with new resources. The Knight Foundation awarded the museum $1.25 million last year to invest in art and technology.
The museum is also planning a new wing and a cafe retrofit with its $20 million share of $159 million in bonds voters approved for local arts organizations.
