That holiest of wholly wonderful Florida seasons started this weekend in Florida – also known as spring training – and the outcome of the Marlins’ game against the Mets (losing 5-2) wasn’t so important as sizing up the newer talent.
Braxton Garrett started on the mound in St. Lucie and his performance was judged shaky: Just one strikeout.
Joe Rizzo, who got a minor league deal with the Marlins and an invite to spring training, hit two for two in his debut.
Also, Jake Mangnum, acquired in an offseason trade with the Mets, made the Marlins best defensive play of the game.
