With one spring training win, Marlins focusing on improvement

by

The Marlins’ dead-last place in the spring training Grapefruit League is not any sort of a harbinger of what’s to come, they say.

Pitcher Eury Perez, the Miami Herald’s Jordan McPherson writes, is showing promise – in spite of the Miami’s 15-4 loss to the Mets in the game he pitched three innings.

Of 45 pitches, 32 came in as strikes – an improvement over his previous outing when just three of 25 pitches produced strikes.

Marlins manager Skip Schumaker says he’ll be more concerned about winning starting opening day March 30.

“In spring training, I’m looking more for ‘Are they getting better?’”
