Homestead Mayor Steve Losner adds bipartisan backers for final re-election bid

by carlislewillard

One week into his final re-election campaign, Homestead Mayor Steve Losner has bipartisan support from 13 lawmakers.

Twelve are Republican: Sens. Ana Maria Rodriguez, Alexis Calatayud, Ileana Garcia and Bryan Ávila; Reps. Tom Fabricio, Juan Fernandez-Baruqin, Alina Garcia, Vicki Lopez, Jim Mooney, Juan Porraws and Alex Rizo; and Miami-Dade Commissioner René García.

Democratic Rep. Kevin Chambliss also gave a nod.

Losner, a lawyer and fourth-generation resident, was vice mayor from 2001 to 2007 and mayor since 2019. He is currently unopposed.

If he secures more than half the vote in October or wins a November runoff, he’d reach term limits in 2027.
