Winner: Wayne Messam
Messam coasted to a third term as Miramar Mayor, securing more than 90% of the vote against Rudy Theophin. Messam, the city’s first Black Mayor, briefly mounted a 2020 presidential run before backing out of the overcrowded field. A statement win here will keep him in the spotlight for additional future runs for office.
Loser: Veteran Delray Beach officials
Voters were looking for something new in Delray Beach. Commissioner Juli Casale lost her re-election bid to Rob Long in the Seat 2 contest. In the open Seat 4 race, former Commissioner Angie Gray lost to Angela Burns.
