House, Senate divided on funding for Miami Project to Cure Paralysis

by carlislewillard

The Senate and House have negotiating to do over how much of Florida’s 2023-24 budget goes to the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

Founded in 1985, the Miami Project has been a funding darling for leaders of both political parties, including Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez, Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book and Speaker-designate Danny Perez.

But this year, the House is offering $1 million to the project in nonrecurring funds half of what Sen. Ana Maria Rodriguez and Rep. Vicki Lopez requested on top of about $13 million in recurring financing.

The Senate, meanwhile, apportioned just $250,000.
