Opening Day – when even the most jaded fan can still imagine the possibilities – is here.
The Marlins will open the season against division rivals the New York Mets at loanDepot Park Thursday.
Pitcher and last year’s Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara will be the Opening Day pitcher, the roster shows. Newcomer Yuri Gurriel, coming off 2017 and 2022 World Series titles playing for the Houston Astros, will be manning first base for the Marlins.
Also new to the lineup: Luis Arraez was acquired from the Minnesota Twins. The Venezuelan is the reigning American League batting champ, the Miami Herald reports.
