Miami Beach is preparing to roll up the red carpet for next year’s spring break after the annual rite of spring this year was marred by unruly crowds and two deadly shootings, the Miami Herald reports.
“Spring break as we know it is over,” said Vice Mayor Steven Meiner, according to the paper. “Completely over. We’re done.”
This week, the Miami Beach City Commission voted to enforce a curfew on South Beach in March 2024 and roll back alcohol sale hours to prevent the disorder that persisted this year despite beefed-up police presence in the core area around Ocean Drive.
