Broward County Schools cut the ribbon on $2 million worth of renovations at the North Lauderdale Elementary School as facility upgrades authorized by the $800 million bond voters approved in 2014 continue to unwind.
The delay in implementing these upgrades has been a focus for state investigators that ultimately resulted in the arrest and dismissal of Broward County’s Superintendent after a grand jury investigation into the deadly 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
An alarm system at the Parkland school was also among the upgrades that had been delayed by “incompetence, neglect of duty and misuse of authority.”
