Trail that goes back in time invites pedestrians, bicyclists

The Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail is part of the state park system that invites a walk or pedal along the original path that was built in the early 20th century to form Henry Flagler’s East Coast Railway.

This recreational path stretches for 90 miles in segments over the 106 miles from Key Largo to Key West.

It includes 23 historic Flagler Railroad bridges that cars no longer use, offering optimum spots for fishing and birdwatching. The path’s longest stretch goes 34 miles from Key Largo to Mile Marker 72 in Islamorada and includes numerous state parks along the way.
