State Financial Services Department snags two Broward County insurance fraudsters

by The 100 Companies

Two Broward County residents were collared for defrauding Edison Insurance Company of $60,222 they claimed was due because they had to rent a $15,000-a-month house while their water-damaged house was being repaired, Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis announced.

Leduc Obas and Rachelle Remy were booked after investigators found the house they claimed to have leased for five months was occupied by someone else. They never occupied it, despite submitting a signed lease to their insurer, the release says. They could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Suspicions of fraud like this should be reported here, Patronis said.
