Miami-Dade youth facilities getting $6.4 million federal funds upgrade

Last week’s grand opening of the Frederica S. Wilson Club at Miami Gardens’ Skyway Elementary School – adding a 2,500-square-foot addition – came with the Congresswoman of the same name bearing gifts.

The Miami Gardens Democrat delivered a $6.4 million check to Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade Inc. Through the club, the school got the learning center addition equipped with a state-of-the-art computer lab and a teen center. The money will also pay for nontraditional athletics facilities such as mini golf greens and tennis courts.

“We’ve seen firsthand how programs like these can make a difference in our students’ lives,” Wilson said.
