Legislature passes ‘Greyson’s Law’ to safeguard children at risk of parental harm

A bill enabling courts to consider threats against ex-partners when determining child visitation and custody policies is ready for the Governor’s signature.

The measure, titled “Greyson’s Law,” is named for Greyson Kessler, a 4-year-old Broward boy killed by his father in a 2021 murder-suicide.

Greyson’s mother, Ali Kessler, sought a restraining order for domestic violence and exclusive custody of Greyson, knowing his life was in danger. Courts denied her request until it was too late.

Since then, she fought for change and state lawmakers unanimously approved the measure by Boynton Beach Sen. Lori Berman and Hollywood Democratic Rep. Hillary Cassel.
