President Joe Biden declared Broward County a disaster area Friday and representatives from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) were going door to door by Monday in particularly hard-hit areas of Fort Lauderdale two weeks after a record-breaking deluge.
The declaration makes Broward residents and business owners eligible for a wide range of federal loans and other assistance if homes and properties were damaged. Local governments and nonprofit organizations are also eligible.
The 2 feet (0.6 meters) that fell in some parts of the county April 12 were said to have set a state record for rain within a 24-hour period.
