South Florida higher ed gets gifted by House ‘sprinkle list’

by The 100 Companies

Two of South Florida’s public institutions of higher learning and a private one are getting a boost in funding via a list of 96 projects designed to seal up the state budget deal.

Florida International University scored $10 million for its operations and Miami Dade College will receive $5 million for a gym renovation.

The private institution, Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBAU), is slated to get $500,000 to fund its fledgling business school.

The House “sprinkle list” of hometown projects totaled $307 million – about $59 million more than last year. The spending could still face the Governor’s veto, however.
