Winner: South Florida higher ed

Several institutions won funding in the budget “sprinkle lists.” The Senate wants to ship $10 million to Florida Atlantic University. The House slotted $10 million for Florida International University, $5 million for Miami Dade College and $500,000 for Palm Beach Atlantic University.

Loser: Daniella Levine Cava

This isn’t a comment on Levine Cava’s job as Mayor or her re-election prospects. But lawmakers Monday approved legislation ensuring Miami-Dade County’s future elected Mayor will not have the full powers of the county’s top cop. Levine Cava had proposed a plan allowing her to retain some of those powers.
