Gov. Ron DeSantis was at True North Classical Academy, a Miami charter school, to sign a slew of bills that deal with education.
Another piece of legislation the Governor is expected to sign shortly makes charter schools like this academy big winners in the 2023 Session. Under the bill (HB 1259), charter schools will get money for capital needs from local school taxes. And the amount they’ll be receiving is expected to triple what they get now.
Miami-Dade County schools Superintendent estimated the legislation will transfer $505-$812 million of Miami’s collected school taxes to charter schools over five years.
