Winner: Miami Beach historic buildings
The close of Session saw a bill fail which would have removed protection for several historic buildings in storm-prone areas. The legislation would have allowed developers to demolish those buildings in order to rebuild stronger structures. It remains to be seen whether it will come back next year, but it’s dead for now.
Loser: Residents in quiet neighborhoods
A bill almost certain to come back is one allowing local governments to more tightly regulate short-term rentals. But this Session, the bill died yet again, leaving local officials and residents with their hands tied for now.
