Two Sweetwater Commissioners are headed back to City Hall after winning landslide re-election bids.
Commission Vice President Isidro Ruiz defeated former Commissioner and fellow Republican Jose Guerra with 68% of the vote.
Commissioner Reinaldo Rey, a Republican, secured 65% of the vote to repel no-party candidate Rolando Mendez.
They were sworn in alongside new (and former) Mayor Jose “Pepe” Diaz and Commission President Saul Díaz, who won unopposed in March.
Ruiz and Guerra enjoyed significant funding advantages. Ruiz raised $14,000 compared to $2,000 for Guerra. Rey, who took office in 2020 by appointment, collected $36,000, dwarfing Mendez’s mostly self-given $2,300.
