South Florida’s Winner and Loser of the Week

Winner: Reinaldo Rey, Isidro Ruiz

Both Rey and Ruiz won re-election to their respective seats on the Sweetwater Commission. Rey secured 65% of the vote in last week’s contest, topping Rolando Mendez in Group 7. Ruiz held the Group 5 seat, earning 68% support against former Commissioner Jose Guerra.

Loser: Fabián Basabe

It’s more bad news for Basabe. A survey showed the House District 106 lawmaker with a 3.73% favorability rating. No, that decimal is not in the wrong place. But with a three-percentage point margin of error, Basabe’s true rating could be as high as 7%. So there’s that.
