Two South Florida lawmakers win Legislature’s approval for free menstrual products at school

If the Governor agrees, starting next school year, public schools can provide free menstrual hygiene products to students, thanks to two Democratic South Florida lawmakers, Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book and Rep. Kelly Skidmore of Boca Raton.

After winning unanimous House and Senate approval, the legislation (HB 389) awaits Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature.

“Twenty-five percent of girls have missed school because they did not have access to menstrual products,” Skidmore said. “We are letting our students know that we take their educational success seriously and will not allow the lack of access to tampons and pads to be an obstacle anymore.”
