Former Broward County Sheriff resigns police chief position

by The 100 Companies

Scott Israel, Broward County’s disgraced former Sheriff, is stepping down from his position as Opa-locka’s police chief after a year in that job, according to a press release from the Miami-Dade County city.

Gov. Ron DeSantis ousted Israel from running the state’s largest public safety organization soon after the Governor’s inauguration in 2019 in the wake of questions about how Broward County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The Governor’s removal did not stop Israel from running for the office again, but he was defeated by DeSantis’ appointee to the position, Sheriff Gregory Tony.
